In 2027, the copyright protection for Bertolt Brecht’s work expires—and with it begins his resurrection. More than forty plays, around two thousand poems, several hundred song lyrics and countless fragments: Brecht’s work is a mountain of history, politics and art, of grief and resistance—and of a story about the fall and rise of a city that could lie both on the US West Coast and on the banks of the Elbe.

Together, the collective andcompany&Co. and Theater Magdeburg embark on a transatlantic expedition, drilling straight through the Brecht mountain from Los Angeles to Magdeburg, from Silicon Valley to the Intel chip factories that were never built, from analogue utopia to digital disillusionment.

Taking Brecht and Kurt Weill’s ballet The Seven Deadly Sins as its starting point, they create a Brecht opera about the dreams and nightmares of platform capitalism, about morality, work and desire—moving between remix, pop, club culture, opera chorus and orchestra.
